Local Hotspot of the Week! Pocono Cafe
Pocono Cafe is a very special place. As you walk towards the front door you are welcomed by a quaint little patio complete with outdoor seating. Instantly this space reminded me of the patios in front of local bodegas in the Dominican Republic. Step inside and the aroma of home cooking pulls you in completely. The menu is robust, there is so much to chose from I can easily sit on the patio and eat all day long. However, my waistline wouldn’t forgive me.
Pocono Cafe has the perfect mix of Dominican Home cooking and a Colombian bakery. The coffee is always fresh and the baked goods are baked fresh on site every day.
When I am here I must have my Cafe con leche. If it’s early a nice Colombian pan dulce con queso (sweet bread with cheese) hits the spot. For lunch be sure to try a Dominican favorite mangu con queso frito, salami y huevos (smashed plantains with fried cheese, salami and fried eggs) if that sounds too heavy for you the rice and beans are cooked fresh daily with any meat you desire. I’ve even had Sancocho (meat and vegetables soup) there that rivals my mothers recipe! This place truly brings me home with every bite. If Latin flair isn’t for you, Pocono Cafe has several American dishes, not limited to sandwiches, burgers and fall off the bone ribs. There truly is something for everyone here.
Next time you find yourself on RT 209 N if Marshalls Creek stop by and have a morir soñando (die while dreaming) yeah, it’s that good! See you there soon! 🙂 When you visit, be sure to say HI to Teresa.
